Man dies in crash near Elko New Market

A 61-year-old Richfield man died Thursday, July 26, when his car crashed through a roundabout at the intersection of Scott County Roads 2 and 46 (Deuce Road and Pillsbury Ave). east of Elko New Market. 

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a driving complaint at the intersection, in New Market Township. A party reported a car was driving erratically prior to entering the roundabout. The car then drove over the center median, entered northbound lane of traffic, rolled and came to rest on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  There were no other occupants in the vehicle, no other vehicles involved, and no one else was injured.

The vehicle involved was a 2011 Toyota Rav 4.  It is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time.  The identity of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New Market Fire Department, Northfield Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol. This incident is being investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
