The Lonsdale Aces Baseball team honored legendary former player and manager Jim Kubes by retiring his No. 8 jersey Friday, May 18, prior to the team’s game against New Market.

Kubes graduated from New Prague High School in 1961 and was one of the star players on New Prague’s American Legion State Tournament team that year. He was signed by the Minnesota Twins and played a short time in their minor league system before injuries ended his professional career. He came home and played and managed for his hometown Lonsdale team for many years.

Dick Jonckowski, voice of the Gophers and a high school teammate of Kubes was master of ceremonies.
