New Prague High School graduate Dick Jonckowski, well-known sports announcer and radio host, will hold a signing of his new book, "It’s All About Me - Dick Jonckowski: A Minnesota Treasure," from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Fishtale Bar and Grill in New Prague.

Jonckowski, who lives in Shakopee, was a longtime radio host and is best known for his more than 30 years as the public address announcer for the Golden Gopher basketball team at Williams Arena. He continues his public speaking career, emceeing many banquets and other events.

He sat down with local author Jim Bruton and in a series of talks, shared his lifetime experiences in a book. After graduating from New Prague, he had a short minor league baseball career and then went into broadcasting. He worked for many years at a radio station in Shakopee, and also worked as a sideline supervisor at Vikings game at Metropolitan Stadium, where his sideline antics sometimes became part of the show. He announced a number of sporting events, including Verne Gagne’s AWAAll-Star Wrestling shows and over the years his public speaking skills made him a popular public speaker.

Nicknamed ‘The Polish Eagle,’ Jonckowski retired as the Gopher basketball PA announcer two years ago, though he still announces baseball games at Siebert Field. People urged him to tell his story in a book, and he contacted Bruton, who has authored a number of books on notable Minnesota sports figures.
