Harold Martin Vosejpka, 83

Harold Martin Vosejpka, age 83, of Lonsdale, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 17th, 2019. Harold was born November 10, 1935, in Lonsdale, to Emil and Otilia (Malecha) Vosejpka.

He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Lonsdale and graduated from New Prague High School. He joined the United States Army and served from 1955 to 1957, then continued his service in the Army Reserve for an additional two years. Harold married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Marek on June 18th, 1960. Together they raised 3 sons; Allen, Mark and David. He was an active 40 year member of the Lonsdale Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Assistant Fire Chief for 14 years and Chief for 10 years, and was a lifetime member of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs’ Association. Being a charter member of the Lonsdale Lions Club, he served in many roles including President. Harold was very active in the Lonsdale American Legion and served as commander 1985-1986. Besides volunteering in various capacities, his passion was the Rifle Squad which he commanded for many years.

Harold worked with his father constructing homes and barns in the area until his father retired. In 1963 he started working for the Rice County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1998, but continued working with Rud Construction for a few years.

He was very active in the City of Lonsdale serving on the council for several years and Mayor for 10 years.  He played a large role on the Veterans Memorial Task Force, contacting donors and helping with its construction. He was a member of the KD’s and the New Prague Knights of Columbus and frequently volunteered at church.

Harold loved to hunt and fish and in his earlier years enjoyed league bowling. He played DRS baseball and later coached the Town and Country baseball team. He and Betty enjoyed traveling with the highlight being their trip to the Czech Republic.

Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty. Children, Allen (Robyn) of Champlin, Mark (Lori) of New Prague, and David of Gilroy, CA. Grandchildren, Elle (Aaron) Kes and Ryan Vosejpka. Great-grandson, Grady Kes. Sisters, Irene Flicek of Wabasha and Clara Nohava of Lonsdale. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fritz and Arlene Trcka of Sartell, sister-in-law, Rita Dreissig of Elk River and brother-in-law, Joe Marek (Terri Brandt) of Lonsdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brother, granddaughter Rachael Vosejpka, brothers-in-law Norbert Flicek, Francis Nohava, Marvin Dreissig, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Mary Tupy of Ukiah, CA.

Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale with Father Nick VanDenBroeke officiating. Serving as Pallbearers, nephews Gary, Gene, Paul, and David Flicek, Steve and Keith Nohava, Bob Tupy and Mike Trcka. Visitation, Tuesday from 3-8 pm and Wednesday from 9-11 am at White Funeral home in Lonsdale. Burial, Calvary Cemetery with full military honors by the Lonsdale American Legion Honor Guard and Rifle Squad. Lunch served at the Legion Hall in Lonsdale.
