Francis Schoenbauer, 89

Francis E. “Frank” Schoenbauer, age 89, of Jordan, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on July 26, 2019 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital. Frank was born on March 25, 1930 in Helena Township, Scott County, MN to Frank J. and Mary (Malecha) Schoenbauer. He was raised in the New Prague area, attended farm school, and graduated from New Prague High School. At age 25, he was drafted into the US Army and proudly served in a medical evac corps in Korea and Japan. Frank married the love of his life, Doreen H. Kadlec, on September 6, 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He was a farmer first and foremost but also worked construction for Opus Corporation and served as a custodian for the New Prague School District, a job which he thoroughly loved. Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the Eagles Club. His kindness and gentle nature made him loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Frank enjoyed anything that brought him in the company of people, such as the numerous card groups he and Doreen belonged to. He enjoyed fishing, especially when that activity was combined with the annual family trips taken to a resort every summer. The annual guys’ snowmobile trip provided the same enjoyment in the winter months, where Frank served as the camp cook. His greatest source of happiness came in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Frank will be missed by all; he was a man of small physical stature but giant in heart and tenderness.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Doreen of Jordan; children, Theresa (Steven) Holets of Oronoco, Robyn (Mike) Hruby of Montgomery, Amy (Jack) Puncochar of St. Patrick, Nick (Melissa) Schoenbauer of Okoboji, IA, Paul (Diana) Schoenbauer of St. Patrick, Jim (Shelly) Schoenbauer of New Prague, Sam (Kerri) Schoenbauer of Lonsdale; sisters, Ann (Lawrence) Koenig of Belle Plaine, Delia Leahy of Lonsdale; sister-in-law, Lorraine Schoenbauer of New Prague; brother-in-law, Orrin Retka of Montgomery; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Philip at age 18; daughter, Constance in infancy; parents; brother, Alfred, Eugene, Edmund, & Raymond; sisters, Mary Krenik & Janet Retka.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Father Kevin Clinton will conduct a prayer service at 7:30 Tuesday evening. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard. Lunch will follow at the KC Hall.
