ENM Council chooses Amanda Novak as new member

The Elko New Market City Council approved a resolution during its Thursday, Nov. 21, meeting naming Amanda Novak as the newest council member. She was chosen out of four candidates who were all interviewed by the current council members during a special meeting at 5 p.m. that evening. Novak replaces council member Jon Schwichtenberg who resigned on Wednesday, Oct. 30, because he was moving out of the city.

City Administrator Tom Terry asked the council if Novak should take the council position at the Thursday, Dec. 5, or 19 meeting. (Elko New Market’s December meetings are held the first and third Thursdays due to the Christmas holiday.) The consensus of the council was to have her sworn into office on December 5.

Since there is less than two years remaining for the council position, which is up for election in 2020, no special election was required.
