Elementary Science Fair offers wide range of projects

Elementary students from across New Prague Area Schools were able to show off their creativity with an assortment of projects at the Elementary Science Fair on Saturday, March 7. Held at the New Prague Middle School gym there were 52 entries in the annual science fair.

“We had a fun day of science and engineering,” said Jodi Prchal, fourth grade teacher at Falcon Ridge, who helps organize the event with New Prague Community Education. She said of the 52 entries there was “a wide variety of very interesting projects!”

There were experiments with rock candy, voltage, gummy bears, which salt melts ice the fastest, using garlic scented fishing bait, the chemistry of slime and which foods have the most iron.

Prchal said the number of entries were down a bit this year due to other activities in the area. “The quality was noticeably improved,” she added.

The students were judged by volunteers from the New Prague High School's National Honor Society. 

There were 14 projects chosen to advance to Elementary School Regional Science Fair on April 25 at Minnesota State University Mankato.
