Boys track team competes at Section meet

The New Prague Trojan boys track and field team ended its season Friday, May 31, at the Section 2AA meet. While the Trojans did not advance any athletes to the state meet, Coach Nick Meyer said that the team had a strong showing on the Gustavus Adolphus College track.

“We had one of our best team performances of 2019,” Meyer said. “We were proud of the energy that our athletes brought to the competition, and it was fun to see so many of our athletes reach their goals and show improvement.

“As with any meet, some of our teammates were not completely satisfied with their performances, but it is important to see the big picture and realize that our hard work and dedication resulted in a ton of improvement and success along the way this spring.”

The Trojans finished 12th of 16 teams at the meet.

Mankato East won the section championship with 99 points, finishing ahead of Mankato West, with 84. The rest of the field included Shakopee (78.5), Buffalo (60), Chanhassen (58.5), Marshall (50), Waconia (49), Waseca (47), Chaska (37), Worthington (37), Hutchinson (32), New Prague (31), Dassel-Cokato (17), Delano (14), New Ulm (7) and Mound Westonka (5).

Highlights of the meet: Jake Lee placed fourth in the 100 meters, seventh in the 200 meters, both with personal records, and was on the fifthplace 4x100 relay team, which had a season best.
