Boys 1st, girls 2nd at Jordan CC Invitational

The New Prague Trojan boys and girls cross country teams each had strong showings at the Jordan Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course. The boys placed first and girls second.

Boys meet The Trojan boys scored 69 points, with second place Jordan at 75. The rest of the field included Math and Science Academy (129), Delano (131), Kasson-Mantorville/ Triton (136), Hutchinson (141), Sibley East (148), Norwood Young America (171), Holy Angels (176), Le Sueur-Henderson (259) and Cannon Falls (297).

Adam Brandt (4th place, 17:55) and Jacob Malecha (5th place, 17:55) led the Trojans.

"After an intelligent start, Adam made a big move about a mile into the race, and Jacob followed," Coach Nick Meyer said. Next for the Trojans was Carson Davis, who took 11th in 18:17. The top three New Prague finishers all earned tshirts and a trip to the awards ceremony for their efforts. John Taylor (24th, 18:55) and Josh Anderson (25th, 18:58) crossed in the top 25 to complete the scoring for New Prague, while Mitch Krostue (26th, 19:03) and Chase Trygestad (35th, 19:36) followed within the next 10 places.

Harris Anderson of Math and Science Academy was medallist with a time of 17:20.

"Although times were slowed by brisk winds and a soft course, the Trojans outperformed their expected rankings and competed very well," Meyer said. "All of the Trojans ran as fast or faster as compared to last year on the same course."

The Trojan JV ran at the same time as the varsity, but were scored separately. New Prague took six of the top 10 places and won the JV race. Jake Helvick took first and Max Russo took second.

Girls race Jordan won the girls meet with 39 points, with the Trojans finishing with 51. The rest of the eight-team field included Le Sueur-Henderson (92), Delano (114), Kasson- Mantorville/Triton (118), Hutchinson (127), Sibley East (182) and Norwood Young America (185).

"We were excited to be competing on a day where the course was fairly dry and rain wasn't falling from the sky," Coach Shawn Brandt said. "The wind played a factor, but the girls used it to their advantage as a race strategy." While overall course times were generally slower, Brandt said all......
