Snow brings festive feeling to Frosty Fest

A gentle snow fell and brought a festive feeling to the activities of Frosty Fest in Lonsdale on Small Business Saturday.

The snow brought slippery conditions to the roads and for those walking about, forcing everyone to slow their pace.

Shops in Lonsdale had special extended hours encouraging residents to shop at their local stores. Many businesses offered specials but the highlight for many was Something For All’s Winter Wonderland.

The Winter Wonderland included from Rice County’s Wheatland Wheaties 4-H Club, Frosty the Snowman, photo opportunities at several face cutout panels, a chance to tell Santa Claus your wishes, and their Adopt-A-Tree event. The trees are placed ahead of time for the Adopt-A-Tree and local non-profits decorate them the day before Frosty Fest with a chance for the top three Facebook-voted to win a prize.

A line was ever-present of families waiting to see Santa Claus for families. The Roemhildt family from Shieldsville was one of them. Parents Allyson and Jonny and children Jarvis and Gwenyth were all smiles putting their Christmas wishes in. Gwenyth said, “I want Barbies.” Her brother Jarvis said, “I want big, big, big, ginormous Pokemon Lego set!”

Horse-drawn rides along downtown was also a big hit. Many people also gathered at one of the six fire pits along the downtown area to keep warm.

The event concluded with a group sing-a-long and tree lighting in Lion’s Park shortly before 6:30 p.m., with many in attendance.
