Orioles, Sox, Lakers big winners in DRS play

New Prague won three games last week to move up in the Dakota-Rice-Scott League standings last week, while Webster won back-toback games for the first time in three years and moved out of the D-R-S cellar. Faribault also won a pair of games to move to .500 on the young season. New Market and Elko hosted a tournament and did not play any league games. New Market remains in first place with a 7-1 record, while St. Patrick dropped a halfgame back after losing to Prior Lake.

Thursday, May 31 Orioles 11, Aces 3 New Prague pounded out 14 hits in an 11-3 victory over Lonsdale. The Aces led the game early and took a 3-2 lead into the fifth, but that's when the Oriole bats came alive. Dan Novak led off the inning with a home run and Eric Wagner and Jake Klein would drive in James Fuerniss and Zack Dubanoski. The Orioles would follow up with five more runs in the sixth with hits from Zack Clark, Dubanoski and backto- back doubles by Jake Mader and Eric Wagner. Ryan Thompson had a big day at the plate for Lonsdale with three hits and two RBIs. Other Aces with hits were Peter Grassl, Jordan Yetzer, Cole Pint, Thomas Hoppert and Greg Johnson. Mader was the winning pitcher for the Orioles, Johnson took the loss for the Aces.

Friday, June 1 Lakers 20, Mudcats 4 Faribault scored 20 runs on 12 hits and 11 walks to defeat Prior Lake 20-4. Porter Sartor had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a homer and six RBIs. Matt Lane had three hits and four RBIs as well. Prior Lake’s Lucas Pumper, Jake Lehrer and Jerad Lehrer each had two hits. Matt Lane took the win, while Ryan White took the loss.

Mallards 13, Warriors 2 Montgomery traveled to Veseli June 1 to take on the Warriors. Robbie Marshall pitched all seven innings for the Mallards, scattering nine hits and allowing two earned runs in a 13-2 win. Bryan Schmitz started for the Warriors and took the loss. For Veseli, Matt Perkinson and Nathan Simon had two hits each and Ben Doerr had 3 hits. Tyler Bednar and Mike Kocina had two hits each for Montgomery.

Saturday, June 2 Sox 6, Saints 3 Webster defeated Saint Benedict 6-3. John Barten earned his first career win, throwing six strong innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits. Matthias Duevel took the loss striking out four, and giving up four earned runs in four innings of work. Jeremey Wieland got the three-inning save for the Sox. Brooks Prochaska led the way offensively with three hits. Brent Cheney, Brett Hoffman and Gage Bergmann each had two hits. Nick Heitkamp, Jeremy Heitkamp and Andrew Huss all contributed multiple hits for the Saints.

Orioles 5, Bulldogs 2 Union Hill took an early lead in the first inning on a 2- run homer by Eric Bisek off New Prague starter Nathan Sprouls. Bulldog starter Daniel Fenies kept the Orioles off the board until the fifth inning when Austin Bachman singled and would later be driven in by a Dan Novak hit. The Orioles scored four runs in the eighth when Novak singled and James Fuerniss reached on an error followed by a walk from Zack Dubanoski and hits from Aaron Kes and Jake Klein. Other Bulldogs with hits were Danny Beckius, Dusty Steinhoff, Matt Beckius, Jesse Bastyr and Derek Masberg. Fenies struck out seven in seven innings while taking the loss. Sprouls struck out six while pitching eight innings, Zach Sirek came in to pick up the save in the ninth.

Sunday, June 3 Lakers 10, Aces 9 Faribault outlasted Lonsdale 10-9 Sunday in Lonsdale. The Lakers were led by Joey Grote, who hit for the cycle, scored four runs and had two RBIs. He also had a walk. Adam Kline and Ryan Archambault both had two hits. Cole Pint and Peter Grassl each had four hits for Lonsdale and Thomas Hoppert added three. Ryan Thomas homered for the Aces. Jack Helgeson was the winning pitcher, while Phil Tisdel took the loss in relief.

Sox 8, Warriors 2 Webster earned its first back to back victories in more than three years with an 8-2 win over Veseli. Jeremey Wieland pitched a complete game for the Sox, getting his second win of the season. He gave up two runs on six hits while striking out five. Ben Doerr took the loss, allowing six earned runs while striking out three. Logan Reger had two hits for the Warriors, including his first career DRS home run. Webster found a way to use their bats all weekend adding 10 more hits on Sunday. Brent Cheney had three hits, Marcus Pleiss tacked on two hits, while a handful more were able to record hits. Brett Hoffman added three RBIs on a basesclearing double in the fourth inning. Adam Schmitz scored all three times he was able to get on base. Jake Ekness was also able to score each time he reached base safely, adding two more runs.

Bulldogs 1, Saints 0 Union Hill defeated St. Benedict in a classic pitcher’s duel, 1-0 in 15 innings. Derek Masberg pitched 10 shutout innings and Dan Meger and Matt Beckius pitched in relief, with Beckius getting the win. Masberg allowed just three hits and struck out nine. Tanner Oakes pitched nine shutout innings for St. Benedict. Jeremy Heitkamp took the loss in relief. The game’s only run came on a walk-off base hit by Eric Bisek, scoring Jeff Dietz. Dietz had three hits for the Bulldogs.

Orioles 7, Coyotes 5 New Prague defeated Shakopee 7-5 Sunday, backed by good pitching and 11 hits. Joel Zimmermann started for the Orioles and went seven innings to get the win. Zack Clark led the hitting attack with three hits, including a double and home run. Justin Novak and James Fuerniss also had two hits and Jake Klein drove in two runs with a single. For the Coyotes Alec Pauly scored three times, reaching base on a hit and a walk. Zak Hoffman was the leading hitter for the Coyotes with three hits, including a two-run double. Chris Isensee took the loss for the Coyotes, Zach Sirek picked up the save for the Orioles.

Mudcats 18, Irish 7 Prior Lake came back from deficits of 6-0 and 10-4, scoring 12 runs over the final three innings to defeat St. Patrick 18-7. The Mudcats had three hits each from Lucas Pumper and Cole Bjorge and two hits each from Jake Lehrer, Ben Morrison and Matt Schmidt. Kyle Rhodus had three hits for the Irish, with Seth Ambroz, Mathew Pexa and Jack Friedges getting two each. Friedges had four RBIs for St. Patrick. Topher Rose picked up the win, with Justin Hacket getting a save. Zach Seurer took the loss.
