More rain; more postponed games in DRS

More rain meant more postponed games in the Dakota-Rice-Scott league this week.

Four league games were postponed earlier in the week, but the sun dried the fields so games were played Friday and Sunday, but Monday’s Memorial Day deluge resulted in six more postponements. The nine games that were played saw nine different winners, ranging from a 38-hit, 25-run slugfest in which St. Patrick defeated Montgomery 13-12 to a pitcher’s duel that saw Prior Lake defeat Union Hill 2-0.

New Market remains on top of the DRS standings with a 7-0 record, with St. Patrick one game back at 5-0.

Wednesday, May 22 Express 6, Mudcats 5 Elko scored a 6-5 walkoff win Wednesday, May 22, over Prior Lake. Ben Morrison had a complete game, but took the loss. Luke Weber and Jonny Houston had two hits each for Prior Lake, including a home run by Houston. Dylan Thomas had three hits for Elko. Ross Bastyr pitched seven innings for Elko, with Ryan Van Duesen getting the win in relief.

Friday May 24 Mallards 7, Saints 2 Montgomery jumped on top with three runs in the first and went on to a 7-2 win over St. Benedict Friday in Montgomery. The Saints had two hits from Jeremy Heitkamp. Cody Pirkl started and took the loss for the Saints, with Joe Pesta, Shane Ahlbrecht and Heitkamp pitching in relief.

Aces 6, Lakers 2 Phil Tisdel scattered four hits over nine innings to lead Lonsdale to a 6-2 win over Faribault in Lonsdale. Trevor Smrekar, Ross Beumer, Brad Davis, and Jordan Yetzer each had two hits for the Aces. Tyler Francis went the distance for the Lakers.

Sunday, May 26 Coyotes 5, Aces 4 Shakopee came back from a 4-0 deficit, tying the game with three runs in the sixth and getting the winning run in the seventh to defeat Lonsdale 5-4. Chris Isensee took the win and Ben Fredenburg got the save. Joseph Sabal was the losing pitcher.

Sox 4, Warriors 0 Jarod Opsahl pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 14 and allowing just four hits as Webster defeated Veseli 4-0 in Webster. Jared Tucker had two hits for the Sox and Adam Schmitz, Jeff Fredrickson, William Chalmers, Marcus Pleiss and Nick Hanson each had a hit. Veseli’s Ben Doerr had two hits and Tyler Busch and Mason Mayer had the others. Doerr started and took the loss, with Will Forberg pitching in relief.

Muskies 15, Lakers 1 New Market jumped all over Faribault, with five runs in the first and four in the second on their way to a 15-1 win. Faribault had just five hits, two of them by Jake Stocker. For New Market, Andy Henkemeyer went 3- for-3 with a walk and a home run and Tyler Bergstrom had a home run and three RBIs. Brett Herber started and went five innings for the win, with Justin Firpo pitching two innings of relief. Payton Miller started and took the loss.

Irish 13, Mallards 12 Both teams had 19 hits in a slugfest at Bonin Field, with St. Patrick prevailing 13-12. The Irish scored five in the first, but gave up seven in the third and trailed 8-6, before scoring six in the fourth to take an 11-8 lead. The Mallards tied it with a run in the eighth, but St. Patrick’s Seth Ambroz hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth with what proved to be the winning run. Montgomery’s Pat Lloyd, Ryan Iverson and Eric Iverson each had three hits and Tom Flicek, Johnny Krocak, Cole Pint and Jake McCabe had two each. Tyler Bednar had five RBIs. Robbie Marschall took the loss for Montogmery. St. Patrick had four hits form Jordan Goracke and three each from Matt Ambroz and Seth Ambroz, including Seth’s home run. Kyle Rhodus, Jack Freidges, Matt Pexa and Dom DeLuca had two each. Phillip Garcia took the win for the Saints, with Seth Ambroz getting the save.

Saints 12, Orioles 8 St. Benedict rallied to win 12-8 over New Prague in St. Benedict. The Orioles outhit the Saints by four and started on top as Justin Novak homered to begin the game. St. Benedict struck next scoring three unearned runs in the first two innings. St. Benedict led 5-1 after Mitchell Martin homered in the fifth before the Orioles got the next seven runs. Jake Klein and Eric Wagner each had two hits during the rally. St. Benedict reclaimed the lead by plating five runs in the bottom of the seventh to move ahead 10-8. Zachary Bakko delivered the big blow with a bases loaded single. Carter Johnson's two-run single in the eighth ended the scoring. Klein had three hits. Novak and Wagner two each for New Prague. Johnson went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs for the Saints. Martin had two hits with a homer and double as well. Trey Kocher picked up the win in relief, getting the final eight outs. Max Fierst took the loss.

Mudcats 2, Bulldogs 0 Prior Lake scored a run in the first and a run in the eighth and shut down the Union Hill offense in a 2-0 win Sunday. The Bulldogs had just three hits, two from Conrad Masberg - including a double, and one from Dusty Steinhoff, also a double. Prior Lake had two hits each from Luke Weber and Corbin Cross, with Cole Bjorge and Cross driving in the two Mudcat runs. Weber pitched 7-1/3 innings and struck out seven to get the win, with Justin Hackett getting a save. Derek Masberg pitched seven innings to take the loss, with Daniel Feneis pitching an inning of relief.
