Lonsdale cancels Community Day

After much deliberation and careful monitoring of the current situation, the Lonsdale Chamber and Lonsdale Community Day Committee members canceled Lonsdale Community Day Festival 2020.

In a press release on June 2, Shanna Gutzke-Kupp, festival chair, said chamber and committee members had hoped it would be possible to bring the festival on August 8 with adjusted events, but too many unknowns from COVID-19 are making it impossible.

“The ongoing uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic has made this timeline no longer possible. This decision has been extremely difficult to make, but the safety of our fans, community, vendors, volunteers and staff is always our top priority, and nothing will ever take precedence over your well-being,” Gutzke-Kupp said. “We understand the disappointment this cancelation will bring to our vendors, sponsors, businesses and visitors, but we need to make decisions on what we know today and not what we ‘hope’ will happen. It’s challenging and complex however, we know it’s the right thing to do. We will forward all sponsorships and vendor fees to our 2021 event.”

Gutzke-Kupp said the current royalty will reign another year and all 2021 “registered” candidates will be allowed to run for candidacy next year.

She also thanked everyone for their patience and understanding.

Next year’s Community Day is planned for Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021.
