Francis J. “Fritz” Tupy, 77

Francis J. “Fritz” Tupy, age 77, of New Prague, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Mala Strana Care and Rehabilitation Center.  Fritz was born on December 3, 1942 at the family home in Webster Township, Rice County to Frank W. and Mary C. (Schoenbauer) Tupy.  Fritz graduated from New Prague High School and entered the US Army National Guard.  He married the love of his life, Karen A. Sticha at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church on May 26, 1964.  They made their home and raised their six children on a farm which housed beef cattle, hogs, chickens, and crops.  His life’s occupation was as a cement mason and he worked for various Twin City commercial contractors.  He took great pride in his trade and it became both a science and a life-style with many side jobs in the community for family and friends in his off hours.  At the same time he farmed his land.  He took a lot of pride in subsistence living and taught his children how to live off the gardens and livestock that came from the farm.  Physically strong, he was one of the hardest working of men and sacrificed a lot to care for his family, instilling in his children the same kind of work ethic.  He loved nothing more than cutting firewood and making sure the oil burner never kicked in because the wood burner always had a pile of stacked wood to feed it!  He enjoyed boating and water skiing and was an avid sportsman, especially hunting, fishing, and most importantly ice fishing and spearing.  Fritz was known for the smile that always graced his face.  He was always friendly, had a cup of coffee in his hand, and could readily strike up a conversation, whether with a friend or a stranger.  A man of deep faith, he was active in both St. Wenceslaus and St. Nicholas Catholic churches.  He was known to bring out the plow in a blizzard and pull the family car to the main highway so that the family would not miss Mass on Sunday!  He took that faith life into the community as an active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.  Though humble and simple, Fritz was a man of integrity in all aspects of life, who led by faith, example, and action.  He will be deeply missed by so many.

Fritz is survived by his wife, Karen of Lonsdale; children, Jeffery Tupy of Prior Lake, James (Myrna) Tupy of Paynesville, Kevin (Marie) Tupy of Burnsville, Daniel (Lisa) Tupy of Baxter, Jonathan (Penny) Tupy of Crystal, Michelle (Lee) Bunge of Woodbury; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Clarence (Joanie) Tupy, Eugene (Dorothy) Tupy, Ken (Sally) Tupy all of New Prague.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Myles and Ron; sister, Marion Skluzacek.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 9:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  Mass will be live-streamed on npcatholic.org.  Masks are required for those attending Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
