DRS Baseball starting this weekend

Jay Schneider, The New Prague Times

Sunday, June 28 is a big day for area baseball fans.

The DRS Amateur Baseball League begins this Sunday with three games.

Webster will play at Lonsdale. Shakopee will play at Montgomery. Faribault will play at St. benedict.

The Minnesota Baseball Association (MBA) and Governor Walz’s office gave approval to amateur baseball to begin official games Wednesday, June 24.

The DRS League held a meeting Sunday, June 22 to discuss the start of their schedules.

League teams will play 46 games in a span of only 29 days.

All the Class C teams in the league will play each other once and the Class B teams will not be scheduled for league games.

Teams are allowed to modify their schedule based on mutual agreement with their opponents.

Team rosters must be official and final on June 30. Players may not be signed after that date.

MBA has designed a preparedness guideline on how to handle game day operations.

The last day to complete regular season games will be August 2nd. The new schedule has Sunday, July 26 as the final games, leaving five days for make-ups.

In the event that a team or teams do not complete all of their regular season games, final standings will be calculated by “Games Back” in the standings not win/loss record.

All teams are expected to play all games on their schedule unless a health situation arises and takes things out of their control.

If all teams play all of their games, normal standings and tiebreakers would be used.

The previously agreed upon play-off schedule will begin on August 4th. Top five teams will receive a bye into regions.

Bottom six teams will play, based on standings, each other in best of three series: 6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10 and 8 vs. 9. Games to be played August 4 and August 6 and if necessary August 7 or August 8.

Winners of those series advance to region play. Region play to begin on August 9. Reminder it is not a true double elimination throughout the bracket. Play to conclude Sunday, August 16th. Region 3C is to have four teams advance to the state tournament.
