Barbara D. Loebner, 84

Barbara D. Loebner, age 84, of Montgomery, formerly of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Traditions of Montgomery. Barbara was born on April 27, 1936 in Minneapolis to Dale and Agnes (Shepherdson) Smith. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and went on to attain both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in teaching from the University of Minnesota. She married the love of her life, George J. Loebner on May 12, 1956 in Minneapolis. Barbara was passionate about teaching and while she taught for the Bloomington School District, she was instrumental in setting up the Special Education Department and served as the coordinator of the program for a number of years. After retiring the couple moved to New Prague in the early 90’s, Barbara bought the New Prague Travel Agency from John Schumacher and provided wonderful travel experiences for others, while feeding her own love of travel. A woman of many interests, she dabbled in many things including crafts and gardening but her greatest love was reading. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and the caregivers at Traditions who grew to love her.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Steve) Maros of Kilkenny and Linda Nytes (Mark Sandberg) of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Melissa (Jim) Fredickson and Chris Nytes; great-grandchildren, Brianna Nytes, Olivia and Evan Fredrickson, Liam Maros. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, on February 11, 2015; her parents.

Private family services will be held Tuesday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. Service will be live-streamed on the Holy Trinity website. Burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis at a later date. bruzekfuneralhome.com
