Le Sueur County approves amended AIS Prevention Plan

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners approved an amended Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Plan during the regular Tuesday, Dec. 11 meeting.

Environmental Resources Specialist Holly Kalbus presented the updated AIS Plan, which included a few minor changes.

Kalbus said there are 128 lakes, many creeks, streams, and rivers within the county.

In 2014, the Minnesota Legislature enacted a program aid grant for AIS prevention.

The amount of the grant, which Le Sueur County will receive $149,119 from the grant in 2019. This amount is based on the number of watercraft trailer launches and the number of watercraft trailer parking spaces within the county.

This legislation also says each county must pass a resolution of the plan, which includes guidelines for the use of the proceeds.

As of Oct. 26, 2018, lakes in Le Sueur County ten were listed on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources List of Infested Waters.
