Kilkenny contracts county police services

Le Sueur County and the City of Kilkenny have reached an agreement pertaining to law enforcement services.

During the Jan. 21 Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Brett Mason presented a contract that has the county providing law enforcement to the City of Kilkenny.

City officials in Kilkenny have already endorsed the contract. The commissioners approved the contract unanimously Tuesday.

Sheriff Mason said the county had been patrolling Kilkenny without a contract for years.

The new agreement will be the same as those the county has with the cities of Elysian and Kasota.

The services provided to the city will include 15 hours per month at a rate of $35/ hour.

Those services include: * Patrolling of residential areas, businesses, parks, and other public property areas. * Enforcement of Minnesota State Statutes, county ordinances and those municipals ordinances that are related to criminal, traffic, and public safety issues. * Traffic enforcement and criminal investigative services. * Follow-up on reported crimes with person who reported the crime. * Response to medical, fire, and other emergencies as appropriate. * Dispatching and other necessary communication services.
