Le Sueur County auditor/treasurer position will be appointed

A public hearing was held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Le Sueur County Board Room to make a decision regarding the auditor/treasurer position.

The board notified the public of their intent to make this position an appointed position last month.

After publishing their intent in the legal county newspaper, a public hearing needed to be held.

There were neither written comments nor public comment during the meeting.

The board approved the resolution which will make the county auditor/ treasurer position an appointed position. This will take effect Oct. 2, 2020.

In other Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners business:

* Highway engineer David Tiegs discussed a number of projects and issues within his department.

Two of the items dealt with the 2021 Highway 60 project, which will start in Madison Lake and finish in Waterville.

The state will be performing grading, bituminous surfacing, full depth reclamation, lighting, and American Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements along the 12-mile stretch.

The project will require a detour on County State Aid Highway 11 and County State Aide Highway 12.

The state will reimburse the county nearly $31,000 for the road life consumed by the detour.

The detour will begin in Elysian after the annual 4th of July celebration and is scheduled to run for 120 days or less.
