Schools to start 2 hours late; snow emergency declared
Heavy snow continued to fall Thursday evening across the southern and central parts of Minnesota. According to the National Weather Service, Lonsdale reported four inches of snow fell Thursday, with 5.5 inches falling in Elko New Market.
The snow and deteriorating road conditions forced TCU to close school, cancel activities and utilize a blended learning day for the students. Thursday marked the third time in two weeks the district utilized the online learning day format created to avoid making up snow days.
Frigid temperatures and high winds are expected Friday after the snowstorm roared across much of Minnesota. On Thursday night, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Superintendent Teri Preisler called a two-hour late start for classes on Friday. Check this site for changes to that schedule.
Because of the snow, the City of Montgomery declared a snow emergency, which makes it unlawful to park a vehicle on any public street, excluding the Central Business District, until it has been fully cleared, curb-to-curb. The Central Business District is defined as First Street and one block either side of it between Oak and Boulevard Avenues.
Vehicles cannot be parked in the Central Business District after 2 a.m. until it has been fully cleared, curb-to-curb. Violators will be ticketed.
If off-street parking is not available it is lawful to park on the property front yard during the declared emergency.
