Ruiz runs his way to state
Tri-City United junior Hugo Ruiz earned a return trip to the state cross country meet by finishing 10th in the Section 2A meet that was held on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Montgomery National Golf Course.
Ruiz, normally one of the front runners who has finished in first place in several races this season (USC, Waseca and New Prague), finished with one of his slowest times of the season, 16:46.2. Last week, Ruiz broke his own school record this year, 16:28.16 in the Minnesota River Conference championships.
His finish earned him the second to last individual state-qualifying nod out of 134 runners. Drew Hastings, a junior from Belle Plaine High School, took first place with his time of 16:41.
