Richard “Rich” George Vargo, age 77, of Montgomery, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 with funeral at 11:00 with Pastor Jason Pollington officiating, all at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Interment was in at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.
Rich was born on November 9, 1946, in Faribault to Paul Vincent and Margaret (Zellmer) Vargo. He was a graduate of Montgomery High School. He served in the United States Army Reserve from December 1965 to December 1971. Rich was united in marriage to Wendy Richter on May 23, 1969, in Richfield. Rich was a retired self-employed carpenter. After retirement he worked as a caretaker at Park Manor in Montgomery. Rich enjoyed being in and watching demo derbies, building bluebird houses, posting things on Trading Post, ice fishing, listening to the Rodeo Song, making maple syrup, spending time with family and friends, in particular at the Male Crisis Center. He especially enjoyed attending grandchildren’s activities and spending time with his first great-grandchild.
Rich is survived by his wife, Wendy of Montgomery; children, Amy (Mark) Wehe of Faribault, Justin (Tina) Vargo of Lonsdale, Jill Vargo of Montgomery, Jessica (Dan) Pumper of Lonsdale; 8 grandchildren, Sydney, Cami and Chase Vargo, Jaymin and Joslyn Vargo, Jorgia and Griffin Pumper, and Madelyn Wehe; great-granddaughter, Quin Pumper; siblings, Donna Ludowese of Beaver Dam, Wisc., Leon (Carol) Vargo of Faribault, and Dennis Vargo of Faribault.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Margaret Vargo; siblings, Donald, Kenneth, Duane, and Raymond Vargo, and Darlene Cemensky.
