Moans and cheers

On Tuesday morning, it was hard to focus. On one hand, I heard the slight moans of my new ninth grader, who was kind of depressed, but secretly excited, he had to return to school. On the other hand, I barely heard him over my cheers that he had to return to school.

The Tuesday after Labor Day is a glorious day, indeed.

Since the local students’ had an extended vacation from the construction in the district, I am so happy school is back in session.

Ditched are the days of running, bicycling, swimming, driving golf carts around town or lying on your back in the grass. Instead we have the sound of class bells, the smell of the cafeteria, the rumbling of buses and children everywhere.

Back to school is a good time.

Along with fresh haircuts, new clothes, backpacks, notebooks and laptops, kids are seeing some new things this year at school. Thanks to all of the building projects across the district, there are a lot of additional classrooms, new/additional technology, heating and cooling and new roofs. Things look great from what I’ve seen, and I hope the students appreciate the hard work that has gone into improving the buildings in which they study.

Good luck to all of the students from early childhood to doctorate-seeking. I hope and pray you all have a fantastic, a safe and productive new school year.
