The Titan girls’ basketball team was one for one in back-to-back games last week.

They beat Belle Plaine at home with a score of 56-46. However their six game winning streak was broken on Friday when they lost to Jordan with a score 62-69.

According to Coach Eric Specht, in the game against the Tigers, the Titans played a very nice defensive game, especially in the first half where they finished the period with a 27-18 score.

“We really did a nice job limiting them to one shot per possession, as we only allowed five second chance points for the game,” he stated. “For being the second game of the back-to-back scenario, I thought our girls played with a lot of energy. I am really proud of this basketball team. They have put themselves in a position with one game left of our conference season to be playing for a share of the conference title. I’m very excited for this group of girls.”

The night before, the Titans were on the road to Jordan, lost 52-69, but didn’t quit.

According to Specht, Jordan hit a three to end the first half to lead with 31-26. They carried that momentum over to take a 10-point lead early in the second. However, the Titans did not succumb to their opponents’ lead.

“Our girls had every reason to throw in the towel. This was a good character test for our team and we responded well. Our girls played with a lot of pride tonight. Unfortunately, they (Jordan) were the better team tonight,” Specht stated. “We did not play a complete basketball game tonight. We went through roughly a seven-minute stretch where we were careless on both ends of the floor. If we are going to take the next step and beat some of these top tier teams like Jordan, we need all of our girls on the same page.”
