Czech May Day is Saturday

Montgomery’s newest spring celebration, Czech May Day, will be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 12 p.m. and lasting to 5 p.m.. It will be held at Heritage Park, which is located at the corner of Vine Avenue and First Street.

The event, called “Stavění Májky” will include the raising of the traditional Czech May Pole, music from the Czech Area Concertina Club, and a Ribbon Dance around the May Pole with Dale Ruhland.

There will also be Czech and Slovak beer and authentic Czech cuisine (chicken paprikash with dumplings, pork and dumplings and sauerkraut, jiternice sandwiches) and hot dogs. Kolacky, poppy seed buchta, zelnicky and bread will also be for sale.

The event also includes a tug of war, face painting, a car roll-in, and wagon rides.

The event is free of admission, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
