A Faribault man was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday, September 1, along Dodd Boulevard, southwest of Sheildsville, and a Kilkenny man has been hospitalized.
According to a news release issued by Sheriff Troy Dunn, the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Kilkenny Fire and Rescue and North Ambulance were dispatched to a personal injury vehicle crash in the 8000 Block of Dodd Boulevard at about 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 2012 Ford Super Crew pick-up truck and a 1998 Honda Civic in the south ditch. Both vehicles sustained severe damage.
The driver of the Honda, Chris Chappuis, 28, of Faribault had been ejected and was pinned underneath the Ford pick-up. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, Jason Holicky, 42, of Kilkenny was treated at the scene and later transported by ambulance to Allina Hospital in Faribault. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda had been westbound on Dodd Road, lost control in a curve, and crossed over into the eastbound lane and collided with the eastbound Ford truck.
The Faribault Fire Department and the Rice County Coroner’s office also assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with crash reconstruction.
