WEM wins two by leading every minute
You can guarantee yourself a win if you never let your opponent lead.
The WEM girls played two games last week and led from tip off to the final second, defeating Waseca 53-43 Tuesday, Dec. 12 and Faribault BA, 64-35 Friday, Dec. 15.
In the win over the Bluejays, the Bucs jumped out to a 13-5 lead behind a pair of three-pointers by Kylie LaFrance. WEM led 23-20 at halftime.
Waseca cut the lead to 25-24 when the Bucs went on a run to increase their lead to 36-26. A Tianna Pope three-pointer on an assist from Alayna Atherton increased WEM’s lead to 46-33 late in the game and they held on for the nonconference win.
“I thought we moved the ball better tonight and it showed in our assist total - assisting on 15 of our made shots,” head coach Ty Kaus said. “Our shooting percentage was the highest we’ve had so far this season.”
The Bucs shot 46 percent (19-of-41) from the field and forced Waseca into 27 turnovers.
Atherton and Claire Bohlen each scored 14 points. LaFrance, Tatum Richards, and Pope each added six points. Atherton had eight rebounds, Bohlen added six rebounds, and Pope added five assists.
