Volleyball team wins 11th straight

The New Prague Trojan volleyball team continued its strong play last week, winning seven matches without dropping a set. They defeated Mankato West and Delano and won five matches at the Tri- City United Invitational in Montgomery.

The Trojans (16-8, 2-0 Wright County East) were scheduled to face Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday, Oct. 3, and will host Orono Thursday, Oct. 5. New Prague takes on Waconia at home Tuesday, Oct. 10, for their final home match of the season.

After starting the season 0-5, The Trojans have won 16 of 19 matches dating back to the Southwest Minnesota Challenge tournament on September 8, and have now won 11 straight matches.

Trojans 3, Scarlets 0 New Prague defeated Mankato West in three sets Tuesday, Sept. 26. Scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25- 17.

"This was a great section win for the team. Our girls are really starting to mesh on the court. We had a great team effort for a win at home," Coach Angie Andersen said.

Sophia Andersen had 20 kills for the Trojans in 31 attempts. Chloe Davis had 24 assists and Davis, Dani Fridges, Hannah Jensen and Brooke Buthe each had two service aces. Jensen was 22-of-22 serving.

Defensively, Mckenna Vacek had 12 serve receptions and Kate Seymour had 11. Vacek led the Trojans with 10 digs and Andersen had two blocks.
