Volleyball advances in Sub-Sections

The Tri-City United Titan Volleyball Team fought their way through the first bracket of the Section 2 Class AA bracket on Thursday, Oct. 26 when they beat Waseca in 3 sets in Montgomery.

TCU 24 - Waseca 26
TCU 15 - Waseca 8
 
The two teams began a back-and-forth battle in a close first game, with neither team gaining a large lead over the other. The second game began the same way, however the Titans made a couple of errors and created a gap between themselves and Waseca. The Bluejays took advantage and widened the gap, and the Titans were unable to retake a lead, losing 16-25.
 
The Titans blasted on the court in the third game commanding an early lead and holding on to it throughout, eventually creating a 7-point gap before winning the set 25-18.
 
Game four was the team’s closest yet. The Titans took a late lead 22-19 until they hit a ball out of bounds, giving the Bluejays the point. A couple of errors from the Titans (a blocked hit by Maggie Trnka, who then collided with Cassidy Gilbertson, and a hit out of bounds by Gabby Robinson) tied the game 24-24. With the Bluejays serving, Ellie Singleton received a serve out of bounds, and a fumble on a block gave Waseca the 26-24 win.
 
The fifth game, played to 15 points, saw the Titans out for revenge on losing the previous game. They played tough and attacked every ball, eventually winning the set 15-8.
 
Next Action
 
The #4 seed Titans will now play #1 seed Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Mankato East High School. According to the Minnesota State High School League, they play at 6 p.m.
