Trojans fall to Woodbury

The New Prague Trojan softball team found Woodbury’s bats too powerful in the opening round of the State Class AAAA softball tournament Thursday in North Mankato.
The Royals hit two two-run home runs as they defeated the Trojans 8-2.
New Prague had a little power of its own, as Nichole Reed hit a two-run homer when the Trojans tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. The Trojans stranded two baserunners, though, and the Royals prevailed.
New Prague moves to the consolation semifinals, and they will take ln Park High School. The Wolfpack, ranked No. 1 in the state, was upset 1-0 by Buffalo in the opening ground.
Other first round scores had Chanhassen defeating Forest Lake 4-1 and Hopkins upending Spring Lake Park 4-1.
Consolation semifinals and semifinals are at 3 p.m. Thursday. If the Trojans win, they play in the consolation championship at 9 a.m. Friday.
