Trojans’ playoff opener postponed
The No. 1 seed New Prague Trojan softball team’s playoff opener scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, against No. 8 Lakeville South, was postponed due to rain and poor field conditions at New Prague High School. The game was scheduled to be played Wednesday, May 24, at 4 p.m. No. 6 Rochester Mayo at No. 3 Rochester Century was also postponed.
Two Section 1AAAA games were played Tuesday. No. 4 seed Lakeville North defeated No. 5 Rochester John Marshall 9-2, and No. 2 Farmington defeated No. 7 Owatonna 3-0.
Whether the Trojans win or lose on Wednesday, they will travel to Todd Park in Austin on Thursday, May 25, for a second round game in the double-elimination tournament. The winner will take on Lakeville North and the loser faces Rochester John Marshall. A third-round game waits teams that are 1- 1 later that evening.
New Prague finished its regular season with two Wright County Conference games last week. The Trojans defeated Orono and lost to Waconia 4-2, ending the regular season with an 18-2 record (8-2 WCC East), winning their fourth straight conference championship. They won or shared the WCC East title each of the last three years and shared the Missota Conference title in 2014.
