Trojan tennis drops pair of matches

The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team lost a pair of matches last week, both by 5- 2 scores. New Prague traveled to Mound Westonka and hosted Le Sueur-Henderson.

The Trojans (1-4) were scheduled to face Lakeville South Tuesday, Sept. 5, in a match that was added to the schedule last week. On Thursday, Sept. 7, the Trojans are at Holy Family Catholic and Saturday, Sept. 9, they travel to the Brainerd Invitational. New Prague hosts Chanhassen on Monday, Sept. 11, and play at Orono Tuesday, Sept. 12. New Prague travels to Providence Academy on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Whitehawks 5, Trojans 2 “Singles has alway been Mound Westonka's strong suit,” Coach Anna Borwege said. “We knew that if we could take the doubles points, we would have a chance to win the match.”

But the Trojans only got two points in doubles and lost to the Whitehawks 5-2 Tuesday, Aug. 29. New Prague’s wins came from the No. 1 doubles pair of Hannah Bruder/Courtney Dragone and the No. 3 team of Emily Schmitz/McKenzie Holgate.

“Both teams cruised through their first sets and were somewhat challenged in the second sets,” Borwege said. “They played consistent and patient points which led to their success.”
