Trojan girls fall to Eden Prairie, Holy Family
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team suffered a pair of losses last week, falling to Eden Prairie and Holy Family Catholic.
The Trojans (7-15, 2-4 Wright County Conference East) are scheduled to travel to Orono Friday, Feb. 9, and will host Delano on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Eagles 70, Trojans 48 Eden Prairie jumped to a big lead and kept going from there as they defeated New Prague 70-48 Tuesday, Jan 30, in the Trojan gym.
The Trojans shot just 30 percent and were outrebounded 42-25.
The team’s defense did force 23 Eagle turnovers.
"Eden Prairie is a really big and physical team," Coach Luke Swedberg said. "We struggled with their size and physicality. It really bothered us from start to finish."
Emily Russo led the Trojans with 20 points, but no one else had more than five. Emily Schmitz had 5, Amanda Giesen 4, Kate Seymour, Emma Anderson, Sonia Thomas and Sally Traxler had 3 each, Brooke Buthe, Bethany Vasecka and Carlie Simon had 2 each and McKenzie Holgate had 1.
Schmitz and Anderson each had three steals.
Fire 47, Trojans 42 New Prague led by seven at halftime, but faltered in the second half, allowing Holy Family to come away with a 47-42 win.
