Tennis team 4th at Brainerd tourney

The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team capped off a busy week with a tournament at Brainerd Saturday, Sept. 9. New Prague tied for fourth place among eight teams in the tournament. Earlier in the week, New Prague lost dual meets to Lakeville South and Holy Family Catholic. The team’s dual meet record dropped to 1-6.

New Prague was scheduled to face Chanhassen on Monday, Sept. 11, and Orono on Tuesday, Sept. 12. They will travel to Providence Academy on Thursday, Sept. 14, and to Mankato East Monday, Sept. 18. New Prague hosts Delano Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Cougars 5, Trojans 2 New Prague traveled to Lakeville and lost to the South Cougars 5-2 Tuesday, Sept. 5. Both of the Trojans’ wins came at singles, with Jenna Larson winning 6-0, 7-6 (7- 1) at No. 2 singles and Lucy Lannon winning at No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

At No. 1 doubles, the team of Courtney Dragone and Hannah Bruder pushed their opponents to three sets before taking the loss.

Fire 4, Trojans 3 New Prague played its first Wright County East match of the season and the two teams were evenly matched. In the end, the Fire prevailed by a 4-3 score.
