Swim team takes 7th at Section meet

The New Prague Trojan swim and dive team completed their 2017 season at the Section 2AA championships at Minnetonka East Junior High last week and had a decent showing for their first year competing at the Class AA level.

New Prague finished seventh of nine teams at the meet and advanced four individuals and three relays to the finals. Diver Ellen Popple missed a state tournament berth by less than a point, placing fifth in the diving competition. Three of the Trojans’ four divers placed in the top 16.

Minnetonka won the meet with 645 points, with Eden Prairie second at 364. The rest of the field included Chanhassen (312), Prior Lake/Jordan (266), Chaska (186), Bloomington Jefferson (131), New Prague (89), Shakopee (83) and Bloomington Kennedy (40).

“We swam against very competitive and well-trained schools, such as Minnetonka and Eden Prairie,” Coach Tracy Torgerson said. “We are very proud with how well the girls have competed this season, especially during sections where almost all of the girls got their personal best times of the season.”

Preliminaries were held Wednesday, Nov. 8, for swimming events, with the top 16 individuals returning for Friday’s finals. Diving was held on Thursday, Nov. 9.
