Ron's Hardware Hank sustains fire damage

A fire was reported at approximately 8:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at Ron's Hardware Hank in Waterville. An individual eating at Bullhead's Bar & Grill, across the street from Ron's, called 911 when he saw flames and smoke in the lower east portion of the two story building. Fire fighters from Waterville and Morristown worked for a number of hours to extinguish the fire and make sure the fire did not spread. Individuals in the apartments above the store were immediately evacuated. According to Waterville Assistant Police Chief Doug Spicer, residents evacuated from the apartments were unable to return due to smoke damage. The Red Cross, along with Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department, Waterville Police Department, and both the Waterville and Morristown Fire and Rescue Departments were on hand to deal with the fire, which was contained to the east side of the hardware store. Spicer said the Waterville Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall will be investigating the cause of the fire, which is currently not known.
