Northfield woman killed in crash

A 59-year-old Northfield woman was killed Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, in a truck-car crash at the intersection of Scott/Rice County Road 86 (280th Street and 30th Street W) and Scott County Road 46 (Hazelwood Ave). The intersection is where the Scott, Rice and Dakota County borders meet.
According to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, a 2005 Mack tandem dump truck/trailer driven by Mark Schroer, 58, of Le Center, was eastbound on CR 86 and collided with  a 2015 Honda Ridgeline driven by Marsheila Thiesen, 59, of Northfield that was northbound on County Road 46. The crash occurred about 8:56 a.m.
Both vehicles rolled into the southeast ditch, and Thiesen was pronounced dead at the scene.  Schroer was taken by ambulance to the Northfield Hospital with “minor injuries,” according to the report.
The crash scene was reconstructed by the Minnesota State Patrol. The State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division also assisted at the scene with local State Patrol troopers. Traffic was detoured for about six hours while the crash was being investigated. Rice and Scott county highway departments assisted with detouring around the crash scene.
Deputies from Rice, Scott and Dakota Counties along with Elko New Market Fire & Rescue and Northfield Ambulance responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office said upon completion of the investigation, all reports will be forwarded to the Rice County Attorney’s office.
