Parent Training in Shakopee on Smoking, Teens and Mental Health NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will sponsor a free Parent Training on Smoking, Teens and Mental Health from 6-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Shakopee Library, 235 Lewis St. S. This presentation will open up the conversation on tobacco use among individuals living with mental illnesses through engaging activities and provide information on how to talk about tobacco use with teens. Parents will be able to identify strategies for smoking cessation along with learning about a variety of free smoking cessation resources. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon meets Oct. 3 Beyond the Yellow Ribbon South of the River will meet from 7-8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the lower level of the Prior Lake VFW Club 16306 Main Ave. They welcome people’s ability to participate in supporting our military by attending their upcoming meeting and events.

Separated & Divorce Support Group meets on Oct. 3 and 17 The Area Separated & Divorce Support Group "Healing Broken Relationships" meets from 7-8:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month at St. Wenceslaus Church in the Church Rectory, 215 Main St. E. in New Prague. The next sessions are October 3 and 17. Come and experience good support as you move through this time in your life. People of all faiths are welcome. Hope for Recovery workshop in Le Sueur set for Oct. 7 NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold a free, interactive workshop that provides families and individuals with information on mental illnesses, practical coping strategies, and hope for recovery. The workshop will be held in Le Sueur at Le Sueur Community Center, 821 E. Ferry St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 7. Helping Students Succeed workshop in New Prague on Oct. 12 Helping Students Succeed is a free two-hour workshop that provides information to parents of school-age children about special education services, the evaluation process, Individualized Education Programs (IEP), 504 plans, accommodations and modifications. The workshop, sponsored by the NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be held in New Prague from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the New Prague Library, 400 Main St. E. ENM site of Oct. 25 workshop on mental health NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold a free crisis planning workshop for parents or caregivers of children from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Elko New Market Library, 110 J. Roberts Way, in Elko New Market. Parents can learn to recognize, manage and plan for a child’s mental health crisis. Participants will also learn de-escalation techniques, and the role of county crisis teams and when to call 911. Parents can develop a crisis plan for their child and family.
