Marion A. Flicek, 82

 

Marion A. Flicek, 82 of Montgomery, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10:30 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Victor Valencia officiating with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.

 

Marion was born on May 1, 1935, in New Prague to John and Mary (Simota) Pomije. She grew up on a farm in Helena Township and attended District 62 Country School, St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from New Prague School in 1954. Marion was united in marriage to Elmer A. Flicek on October 22, 1955, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Marion and Elmer lived on a rural Montgomery farm located by Cody Lake in Wheatland Township where they raised their three children, Charlene, Elmer Jr. and Darla.

 

Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of several card clubs. Marion loved watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, NASCAR and other sporting events. Marion kept herself very busy with working, gardening, and socializing. She never wanted to miss an opportunity to have fun. Her frequent telephone calls to family, friends, and neighbors will be truly missed. 

 

Marion was a great baker and cook, especially her delicious potato dumplings and mocha cakes. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Council of Catholic Woman, Degree of Honor and Wheatland Twin-Lakes Sportsmen Club. 

Marion held various jobs throughout the years as a farmer, factory worker and house cleaner, along with jobs at the Montgomery American Legion, Montgomery Locker Plant, and most recently as a paraprofessional for Palmer Bus Company.

 

Marion is survived by daughters, Charlene (Douglas) Dietz of New Prague, Darla (Michael) Ceplecha of Montgomery; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeffrey) Smith of Shakopee, Thomas Dietz of Montgomery, and Ashley Dietz (special friend, Brett Hoffman), of Jordan; sisters, Dorothy Shimota, JoAnn Petricka, and Grace Dobmeier, all of Montgomery.

 

Marion is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer A. Flicek; son, Elmer J. Flicek; sister, Janet Novotny; parents, John and Mary Pomije.
