Mallards, Orioles and Bulldogs get first DRS wins
The DRS League completed their third weekend of play, and New Market, Faribault, and Elko remain undefeated. New Market has been extremely hot out of the blocks with a league-leading 5-0 start. Montgomery, New Prague, and Union Hill each picked up their first league wins of the year this past week.
Wednesday, May 4 Bulldogs 16, Sox 3 Union Hill got off to a hot start Wednesday night in Elko, taking on the Webster Sox, scoring three runs each of the first two innings, and putting up a 5-spot in the third. A mix of walks, hit batters, and hits were the winning equation for the Bulldogs. Rick Bell started and went seven strong innings, earning the win. He scattered six hits, giving up three runs, two of which were earned and striking out six. Bryan Lindner pitched the eighth for Union Hill and struck out the side. Hunter Solheid started and took the loss for Webster. Overall, the Bulldogs were plunked 11 times, walked nine and had nine hits. Danny Beckius had two hits and four RBI for Union Hill.
Muskies 23, Orioles 2 Andy Henkemeyer got the start on the mound for the Muskies, going five innings and giving up only three hits, as the Muskies downed the Orioles 23-2 in seven innings. The game was knotted at 1-1 through four innings, but in the fifth the Muskies erupted for seven runs, chasing Orioles’ starting pitcher Chase Buthe, who took the loss. The Muskies tacked on eight more runs in the sixth, and seven more in the seventh. The Muskies were led by David Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, two walks, and four runs scored. Andy Henkemeyer helped his own cause, going 3-for-5 at the plate, including a double and two RBIs. Nate Rost and Tyler Bergstrom also chipped in three RBIs apiece. New Prague was only able to muster three hits against the Muskies’ pitching, led by Nick Schoenecker with a double. Justin Novak and Dan Novak each added an RBI.
Friday, May 6 Coyotes 9, Warriors 3 Shakopee's Alex Johnson went five innings, giving up only two hits, and picked up seven strikeouts in a winning effort against Veseli. Tanner Graff led the Coyotes offensively going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Sloss was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Alec Pauly was 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Veseli's Ben Doerr was the losing pitcher in a three-inning effort. Veseli was led by Matt Perkinson who had a walk and a hit, as well as Mike Bartusek who had a hit and a run scored. Cody Shimota added two walks and an RBI.
Saturday, May 7 Orioles 11, Aces 1 The New Prague Orioles were able to combine good pitching and good hitting and defeat Lonsdale 11-1. Joel Zimmermann went all seven innings for the Orioles to pick up the win. Phil Tisdel started for the Aces and recorded the loss. Lonsdale wasn't able to muster much until the fourth when Dylon Eisele and Jason Kirschman both singled and Eisele would score on an error. Lance Anderson would also contribute two hits. The Orioles put up four runs in the first inning with doubles by Aaron Shetka and Ted Nytes. They wouldn't do much during the middle innings, but turned it on in the sixth and seventh. Jake Klein and Justin Novak would both single and later score on a Dust Steinhoff single. The Orioles would put it away in the seventh, scoring four runs thanks to a few hit batsmen and an Aaron Kes single.
Muskies 14, Sox 0 Muskies pitching held the Sox to only three hits, while the New Market offense jumped all over the Sox in a 14-0 win. Harvey Martin was the winning pitcher for the Muskies, going five innings and surrendering only two hits. He had nine strikeouts against only one walk. Kyle Henkemeyer pitched in relief picking up four more strikeouts. The Muskies were led by Andy Henkemeyer who was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. David Stewart was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Webster's Adam Neuger pitched six innings and was tagged with the loss. Nate Nielsen, Parker Hafermann and Brett Hoffman had Webster's hits.
Sunday, May 8 Lakers 4, Sox 1 Faribault defeated Webster 4-1. No summary was provided for this game.
Warriors 6, Coyotes 3 Shakopee scored two runs in the second inning on a base hit by Tanner Graff, and added an unearned run in the third. Veseli scored in the third with a walk by Nate Novak, a double by Tyler Busch and base hit by Brett Kriha. In the seventh, Mike Bartusek walked, advanced to third on a hit by Corey Friedges, then later scored on a double steal. Veseli had their big inning in the last of the eighth. With two outs, Veseli plated four runs. Kriha had a single, Matt Perkinson walked, Nolan Hodapp had an infield hit, Eric Steinhoff hit a two run double, then Mike Bartusek came through with a two RBI single. Matt Perkinson went the distance and picked up the win for the Warriors striking out seven and scattering five hits. Tyler Sloss took the loss for the Coyotes.
Irish 6, Aces 5 In a back-and-forth game at Bonin Field, the host Irish held on for a 6-5 win over Lonsdale. The Irish struck first with a first inning run against the Aces’ starting pitcher Joe Sabal. But Lonsdale came back and scored three runs in the third, and two in the fourth to chase Irish starting pitcher Josh Simon from the game. Bill Dunker pitched in relief and held the Aces off the scoreboard. The Irish scored one run in the sixth and seventh innings, and tacked on three in the eighth to take a late lead. The big hit came from Simon, who plated two runs in the eighth with a double. In the ninth, Lonsdale threatened again, as they filled the bases with two outs. The Irish brought in Seth Ambroz to record the final out, leaving the bases filled with Aces. Lonsdale was led offensively by Lance Anderson, who was 3-for-5. Jason Kirschman, Ryan Thompson, and Thomas Hoppert each went 2-for-5. Joe Sabal was the losing pitcher, while Bill Dunker was the winning pitcher, and Seth Ambroz picked up the save.
Mallards 6, Saints 4 Montgomery took advantage of a couple of St. Benedict miscues to win 6-4. Ryan Iverson led the way with three hits including a double and two RBI. Tyler Bednar hit a solo home run and Tom Flicek scored two runs. Jaron Christensen started and pitched well over 4- 2/3 innings, giving up four runs. Johnny Krocak threw 2-1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the win and Mike Flicek faced six batters for a two-inning save. Tanner Oakes took the loss in relief following some very good relief pitching from Mike Pauly.
Muskies 6, Mudcats 2 Derek Bergstrom pitched a complete game and got the win as the Muskies downed the Mudcats 6-2. Bergstrom had nine strikeouts, one walk, and scattered eight hits in his winning effort. Andy Henkemeyer, Tyler Bergstrom, and Kyle Henkemeyer each had two hits for the Muskies. Andy Henkemeyer and Kyle Bergstrom each also added home runs. Jonathon Houston took the loss on the hill for the Mudcats, going five innings with six strikeouts and four walks. Topher Rose pitched in relief and added three strikeouts. Houston led the Mudcats offensively, picking up two hits, while Cole Bjorge and Brad Schoenrock each added an RBI.
Express 16, Bulldogs 5 Elko pounded out 12 hits and beat Union Hill 16-5 in 7 innings at Union Hill. Elko was led by Jason Grimm, who went 2-for-2 with a home run, Dillon Thomas was 2-for-3 with a home run, and Kyle Kraska added a three-run homer. TJ Evanson had two doubles. On the hill Tyler Brekke went the distance scattering nine hits.
