Lonsdale man injured in backhoe accident

An 83-year-old Lonsdale man was airlifted Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, after being injured while operating a backhoe in rural Wheatland township. 
According to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies, Lonsdale Fire and Rescue and North Ambulance were called at about 10:24 a.m. to an address on Jackson Avenue when someone reported they had seen a person struck by a backhoe. 
Upon arrival, responders treated Joseph Schiprett for injuries he received. North Air Care transported Schiprett from the scene to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. 
investigators learned Schiprett was working with his backhoe when he tried to start it and it lurched forward, knocking him down and running over him. 
Agencies responding included the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Lonsdale Police, North Memorial Ambulance-New Prague, North Air Care and Lonsdale Fire & Rescue.
