Lakes Assoc. warns of weeds after grant money cut
The Waterville Lakes Association (WLA) is trying to figure out how to continue fighting curly leaf pondweed in Lake Tetonka after the DNR cut thousands of dollars in grant money for the project.
Since 2009, the DNR has annually awarded between $9,000 and $5,000 in grant money to the WLA to help spray for the invasive aquatic weed. These dollars paired with money raised by WLA fundraisers and donations have paid for the annual $14,000 spraying of up to 60 acres on Lake Tetonka.
This year, the WLA will not receive DNR grant money for weed control.
