Janet C. Novotny, age 79
Janet C. Novotny, age 79, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center. Janet was born on April 5, 1938, in New Prague to John C. and Mary A. (Simota) Pomije.
She grew up in the New Prague area, attending District 62 country school and graduating from New Prague High School. Janet married Alfred W. Novotny on April 12, 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
She worked as a farm housewife while raising their 4 children and also worked at Queen of Peace Hospital in the kitchen and cleaned private homes.
Janet’s favorite activities were cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren. Sewing and gardening were also important activities in her younger years. Throughout her life, she and Alfred enjoyed travelling to area Czech festivals.
Janet is survived by her husband, Alfred; children, Geraldine (Galen) Novotny of Montgomery, Charlotte (Jim) Pelowski of Le Center, Sharon (Joe) Vlasak of Montgomery, Gary (Michelle) Novotny of New Prague; 6 grandchildren, Shannon Novotny (special friend, Curt Thompson), Shawn Novotny (special friend, Josh Bastyr), Jennifer (Greg) Simon, Rachael Vlasak, Trevor Novotny, Trent Novotny; sisters, Marion Flicek of Montgomery, Dorothy Shimota of Montgomery, Jo Ann (Don) Petericka of Montgomery, Gracie (Tony) Dobmeier of Montgomery. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial took place on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation occurred at church 2 hours prior to Mass from 9 - 11 AM. Burial occurred at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
