J. Douglas “Doug” Laudon, 69

J. Douglas “Doug” Laudon, 69, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Surprise, AZ. Doug was born on December 23, 1947, in Moorhead, MN to James W and Bergit AN (Falstad) Laudon.  Doug graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1965, and Moorhead State University in 1970.

He taught Phys. Ed in Montgomery for 35 years until his retirement in 2006. Once retired, Doug was free to “follow the sunshine”, and he did just that by spending summers at his lake home and winters in Surprise, AZ, with his devoted wife, Marie, by his side.

Doug was born with an affinity for athletics and a knack for playing cards. Throughout his life, he remained a steadfast proponent of an active and healthy lifestyle, yet he never met a cookie he didn’t like. Innately good and resolutely humble, he was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, and never without a smile. His legacy is that of a vivacious, gregarious and empathetic man whose glass was always half-full. But perhaps his greatest attribute was the attribute he considered the greatest in others; kindness.

Doug will be dearly missed by family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are wife Marie; daughters Kate Bunin and Emily Laudon; sister Sherry Skidmore; and soulmate, Baxter (the dog).

A Celebration of Life is planned for August 2017 at Doug and Marie’s home on Lake Eunice. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully request any memorials be made towards ALS research; ALS Association (alsa.org).

Doug’s childhood dream was to be a baseball player and, truth be told, he didn’t miss the mark by much. His life was chock-full of home runs, RBI’s and grand slams. To Doug, his life was the greatest ballgame ever played.
