Getting ready for May Day celebration

Workers were preparing a key item on Friday for Montgomery’s first-ever May Day - the 50-foot tall evergreen tree. The Czech celebration will take place on Sunday, May 7 at the corner of Vine Avenue and First Street.

The festivities will consist of raising of the May Pole, with music, dancing, traditional Czech food, and beer. Music for the event will be provided by members of the Czech Area Concertina Club and by Boogieland Entertainment. There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides.

The event is sponsored by the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, The Montgomery Area Community Club, Golden Years Home, City of Montgomery (in kind), Edel’s Meat Market, Ruhland Electric (in kind), members of the Czech Area Concertina Club, Larry Jindra “DJ”, Mackenthun’s Fine Foods and the Montgomery Messenger/Suel Printing.
