ENM Council OKs fire relief association memorandum

The Elko New Market City Council approved the Fire Relief Association memorandum of understanding at its Thursday, Aug. 10, meeting.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) has 10 terms to it, including that it will be for three years, from 2018 to 2020. Under the memorandum, the municipal contribution shall not include the State Fire Aid, but be in addition to it. Municipal contributions are to be in 2018 - $118,147, in 2019 - $124,057 and in 2020 - $130,257. One term stated — "It is recognized that the intended contributions are based on the assumption of level or increasing tax base and non-property tax revenues in the Fire Fund and General Fund operating budgets for the City and contract jurisdictions within the Fire District. Decreasing tax base or non-property tax revenues will limit the ability of the City and the contract jurisdictions with the Fire District to support the afore mentioned contributions."
