Doris M. Kubes, 93

Doris M. Kubes, age 93, of New Prague, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  Doris was born on June 21, 1924 in St. Thomas, Minnesota to Patrick and Anna (Duane) Brown.  She grew up in the St. Thomas area and graduated from New Prague High School.  She married Leonard W. Kubes on February 12, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church in Coronado, CA and the couple moved to New Prague where they farmed and raised their family.  In addition to a farm housewife, Doris was a cook for the New Prague School District for many years.  She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved dancing and enjoyed playing cards.  Doris and Leonard travelled extensively and had a place in Mission, Texas, where they spent their winters.  Doris always kept in contact with their Texas friends.  Spending time with her family and friends was a priority for Doris.

Doris is survived by her children, Bonita (Glenn) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD, Tom (Lois) Kubes of Owatonna, Jeanette (Ron) Garwood of Blaine, Florian (Nathalie Lord) Kubes of Montreal, Canada; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Pauly of New Prague, Ceil (Gene) Simon of Veseli, Irene Kubes of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard on January 18, 2011; brother, Milton Brown; sister, Helen Filipek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home that morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall. bruzekfuneralhome.com
