Dance team to host home meet Saturday
The New Prague Trojan Dance Team is nearing the end of its season and gearing up for the post-season.
The team finished up its conference schedule with a Jazz meet in Hutchinson on Thursday, Jan. 7, and the WCC championship in Litchfield Saturday, Jan. 16.
In the Jazz meet at Hutchinson, both the JV and varsity had good showings in an increasing tough Wright County Conference. Varsity had its best scores of the season, yet placed seventh out of 12 teams. Places 2 through seven were within 11 points out of a 500-point scale. The JV placed third out of seven in a combined JV/B-squad field.
In the conference championships, teams have the opportunity to perform each routine one more time to determine final conference placing. In Jazz, varsity placed fourth with a seasonhigh score, bettering their previous score by more than 20 points. JV placed fourth out of seven teams. In Kick, varsity placed sixth and JV had a season-best third place. Overall, the Trojans finished sixth in the WCC.
The team also traveled to Lakeville South for a weekend invitational Saturday, Jan. 9, where they competed against other AAA schools in preparation for the upcoming section tournament.
In Jazz, varsity placed seventh, with their strongest areas on the scoresheets being difficulty of skills and combinations. JV placed ninth with their strongest scores being technique of turns, leaps and jumps.
In Kick, varsity placed seventh, with the highest scores being visual effectiveness and choreography. JV placed ninth in kick, and their highest scores were in kick height and visual effectiveness.
New Prague meet
The team is gearing up for its only home event of the season, and its final regular season meet, the Second Annual Trojan Dance Team Invitational Saturday. Jan. 23.
