County accepts proposal for CSAH 3 project

Construction on the estimated $6 million project might not begin until 2015, but the Le Sueur County Board got the ball rolling at its meeting Tuesday, Aug. 20, by accepting a Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) proposal for engineering/feasibility study and design services for a CSAH 3 (Fifth St.) street and utility improvement project in Montgomery. The project also includes a select number of adjacent city streets.

The Montgomery City Council also accepted the proposal at its meeting Monday night, as this would be a joint project. Le Sueur County will contract directly with SEH for the project and invoice the city for its portion of the fees.

The engineering services will include topographic field surveys, field investigations, data collection, preparation of a feasibility study and conducting one public hearing to meet the city’s obligations for public improvements under Minnesota statute. In addition, the scope of services will include conducting two neighborhood meetings as part of the public involvement process.

Proposed fees from SEH for the Phase I-Feasibility Phase are not to exceed $108,000.

County Administrator/Engineer Darrell Pettis said the road was built in the 1940s, and has had miscellaneous improvements over the years, but not total reconstruction, as this project would involve. “The road (street) is basically shot and needs this project, which would be funded by bonding by both the county and city,” he said.

The board also:

—Received the monthly update from Human Services Director Sue Rynda, with special introductions and presentations by members of the child support unit, since it is Child Support Awareness Month. Staff members Kandi Larson, supervisor, Judy Yokiel and Lindsay Oakland, child support officers, Patty Wolter, office support specialist and Susie McMillen, collections officer, each spoke of their involvement in various areas of child support programs.

—Approved replacement of computer equipment for scanning and filing of county documents. MIS Director Scott Gerr had earlier received a quote for all related equipment at $54,348, from Information Systems Corporation. “It’s time to replace this important equipment,” commented Pettis.
