Council OKs Chart storage expansion

A request from Chart Industries to amend the business’ existing storage area was approved by the New Prague City Council at its Monday, July 17, meeting. The amendment will expand Chart Industries existing exterior storage area to include all existing gravel surface areas at its property.

City Planning Director Ken Ondich explained the New Prague Planning Commission unanimously recommended for approval the request at its Wednesday, June 28, meeting. The requested expansion area is located north of the new large tank manufacturing facility. City staff recommended approval with several conditions, including adding a line of spruce trees north of the parking lot that was part of the new manufacturing facility. The trees are to be at least six-feet tall at their planting. Also, a six-foot tall fence, running 100 feet, is to be built near the southeast access of the facility. The trees and fence are to provide screening for the residential homes and traffic along First Avenue NW.

A public hearing went with the request with one resident, Russ Sirek, commenting. He lives across from the north parking area and asked if one row of trees would be enough for screening.

Bruce Lyman, Vice President of Operations for Chart Industries, said they needed the additional gravel areas to store items. Also, to be a good neighbor, they would agree to the screening.
